Professor Bruce Levitt was recently quoted in the article “Who is Michael Rhynes? The story behind an exonerated Attica prisoner who remade his life.” Michael Rhynes, a poet, performer and community organizer was just released from prison after being wrongly held for 37 years.
For the last fourteen years, Professor Bruce Levitt has worked as a facilitator for the Phoenix Players Theatre Group, a group Michael co-founded while incarcerated with a goal “to reach into the depths of our beings and bring forth our humanity."
Bruce spoke about the group and Michael saying, "they wanted people who were ready to do some really deep, personal explorations. Michael had a sense about who was ready. And sometimes the person didn’t even know they were ready, but Michael knew they were ready."
