Assistant Professor of the Practice Danielle Russo has been selected as a New York Community Trust Artist in Residence at Gibney for January 2025. This award supports the research and early development of a new intermedia dance and community archival project on the excavation, reconciliation, and healing of genealogies of pain, delving into matrilineal inheritances in parallel to the historic, "meritorious" metric of pain in Western concert dance.
"This project is emerging from an entanglement of the personal, weaving together and striving to make sense, to make record of accumulative experiences, lived and shared, across my team of womxn collaborators,” says Russo. “At its core, it is steeped in steadfast community and a place for processing, for collective protection, for healing, and to make some noise, particularly in this moment of unraveling, of silencing."
Project sessions will take place between Ithaca and New York City throughout the spring and summer —stay tuned for information about upcoming open rehearsals at PMA.
