PMA Assistant Professor of the Practice Danielle Russo and PMA Visiting Lecturer Olive Prince Converge for “Developing Dramaturgical Strategies for AI and XR” Workshop

PMA Assistant Professor of the Practice Danielle Russo and PMA Visiting Lecturer Olive Prince on behalf of PMA Dance appeared at a two-day workshop called Developing Dramaturgical Strategies for AI and XR alongside NYC’s Contemporary Performance Scene. This convergence took place on September 28-29 at NYU Tandon @ The Yard in Brooklyn, NY. The event was led by the National Science Foundation, Cornell Tech, NYU Tandon, CUNY, Center for Responsible AI, and UNCLA-led Innovation, Culture, and Creativity Project.

Russo and Prince were included as part of a cohort of choreographers and directors, dramaturgs, performers, presenters and presenting institutions, funding bodies, technologists, scientists, engineers, and pedagogues, discussing, debating, and continually asking: "How does Contemporary Performance inform AI and Extended Reality (XR) technologies?"

Together, attendees workshopped innovative creative practices that explore questions about ethics, transparency, and access for AI/XR and the multiple performing arts sectors, including higher education. Special thanks to Michael Byrne, Creative Lead for Tech, Arts and Culture at Cornell Tech for amplifying dance and engaging our dual campuses in this critical conversation and community.
